Preparing Algeria for the future is the target of an ambitious program on energy efficiency and renewable energies. According to the program of the Algerian ministry of energy and mines, 22,000 MW of power generating capacity from renewable sources shall be installed between 2011 and 2030. 12,000 MW will be intended to meet the domestic electricity demand and 10,000 MW destined for export. To reach these targets, Algeria expects to invest up to 120 billion US Dollars. Around 100,000 new jobs are to be created.
It is expected that about 40% of electricity produced for domestic consumption will result from renewable energy sources by 2030. The national potential for renewable energy is strongly dominated by solar energy. According to AHK Algeria, the energy potential from solar radiation in Algeria exceeds the global energy demand. Solar thermal electricity generation on 65.000 sqm2 (less than 4% of the total capacity) in the Sahara would be sufficient to cover the global energy demand. With the program, the government aims for the development of about 60 solar photovoltaic and concentrating solar power plants, wind farms as well as hybrid power plants.

Together with the trade shows EneR Event in November 2011 in Morocco and elcomUkraine 2012, the 6th electro, automation, energy & renewables also addresses these topics. Algeria“s leading trade show will be held at Pavilion «B» at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers – Safex from 7 to 10 May, 2012.
